11th February 2022, Weekly Update

  1. Our Stewardship of Money

We’ve been reflecting on stewardship in recent weeks, that is how we use the time, talents and money God has entrusted to us.  James in his letter dismisses faith that is all talk and doesn’t result in action. You could say that there is nothing quite as telling as what we do with our money.  As we worship this Sunday we will focus on the practicalities of giving.

Attached to this message is a document. Paper versions will be handed out in Church on Sunday. It summaries where our offerings go and is intended to prompt you to reflect on your giving.

Everyone’s circumstances are different. Yet I would be amazed if there are many people who’s income is the same as it was just three years ago.  I’d encourage you to take some time to consider whether you have adjusted your offering (which might mean decreasing and not just increasing it) to take account of how your income has changed in recent years.

Worship in church will be at 9.30 am and 10.30 am (also live-streamed: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyx9BQETCXXgQ5HcwkBtLdA)

2.

An Easter Egg with a Difference

The Easter Eggs sold in all major retailers avoid any mention of the Easter story. There is an alternative – chocolate eggs, made from Fairtrade chocolate, that also say something about the resurrection of Jesus.  This Sunday you will have the opportunity to place an order for some which will be delivered to the church in time for Easter.

3.

Church Office Next Week

Julie is having a well deserved holiday next week. The Church office will be closed on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

4.

Open Door

Before Covid it was the practice at St Andrew Blackadder to have the High Street doors open between 9 am and 4 pm during the week, and from 10.00-12.00 noon on Saturdays.  Since the office closes at noon, people volunteered to be in the entrance area in the afternoon.

We want to re-start this ministry which will allow visitors to drop in, and people to come into the building for prayer when the office is not open. To do this we need some volunteers who would be willing  to cover 2 hour slots, 12.00 – 2.00pm and 2.00 – 4.00pm.

This has been an enjoyable outreach to the community and now could be another opportunity in Growing Young. Some people were happy to do the duty on their own, with a book or knitting when things were quiet, others took their stint as a chance to share lunch or coffee with a partner or friend. If there are sufficient volunteers the duty could be once in a month but some were happy to make this a fortnightly or even weekly practice.

If you would like to volunteer or find out more please contact Barbara Clark (details in the Church Directory) or leave your name with Julie at the office.
