- Sunday 21 April
Services at 9.30 am and 10.30 am (also live-streamed) will be taken by Ann Cubitt. The passage is John 21:1-19.
2) Ordination of Elders
Sally A, Ewan B, Roger G, Sheila H, Mari S and Gary W members of this congregation, have been elected to be ruling elders and the Kirk Session has judged them to be qualified for that office and has sustained their election.
Sally A, Ewan B, Roger G, Sheila H, Mari S and Gary W have accepted office as elders: if anyone has any objections why any of these members should not be ordained they should state their objection at the meeting of the Kirk Session in The Chapel on Sunday 5th May 2024 at 10.15am. If no relevant objection regarding life or doctrine is made and substantiated, the Kirk Session will proceed to ordination and admission during the 10.30 service on that date. By order of the Kirk Session
3) ASM
The Annual Stated Meeting of the Congregation will take place on Sunday 5 May at 11.50 am. The church accounts for 2023 will be shared with the congregation. If you would like your own copy of either the management or the statutory accounts, contact Julie who will gladly share them with you. All members and friends of the congregation are invited to attend.
4) Church Property
St Andrew Blackadder has three properties: the church, the church hall and the manse. Each is held by different trustees on behalf of the congregation: the church by the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland, the hall by the Kirk Session and the Manse by the Minister and Session Clerk.
On April 1 legislation passed by the Scottish Parliament came into force which creates additional complexity for property trustees. The Kirk Session is clear that its purpose it to enable the congregation to play its part in God’s mission. Complexity around land title registration distracts from this core purpose. So the Kirk Session has decided to transfer title to the church hall and manse to the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland. Since this affects the rights of the congregation it will be asked to approve this transfer at the ASM on May 5.
A detailed briefing paper considered by the Kirk Session is available from the church office. Anyone with questions is encouraged to raise them with David R before the ASM.
5) Overseas Project Visit. Komi Sena, the translation consultant for the Ife Project in Togo, West Africa, will be visiting the church on Friday 26th April. A buffet lunch is being provided, and you are warmly invited to come and meet him and hear about this work. Please let Jenny K, or Julie in the office know if you would like to come, so we have an idea of numbers for catering.
