Weekly Update. 16th August 2024

  1. Sunday 18 August

Services at 9.30 am and 10.30 am (also live-streamed). The passage is Isaiah 60 and the theme Lighting The Beacons.

2)   Lighting Beacons of Hope

Usually, the congregation reads a book together between August and October. This year’s book is Lighting The Beacons by Jill Duff. Jill is an Anglican Bishop who sounds like the Church of England’s answer to Tommy MacNeil, who wrote last year’s book, Sleeping Giant!  It turns out that Jenny Kellock has already read the book. When she heard the congregation would be reading it told me, ‘It’s absolutely great.’

Sunday Services will follow each chapter in the book. Each chapter contains some discussion questions. So you’ll want to get your own copy so you can be part of the experience and conversation.

The book normally retails at £12.99. They will be on sale at coffee after church for £10 – both cash and card will be accepted. Alternatively you can buy the ebook version at

3)   Work on the Hall

Phase 1 of the green retrofit of the church hall will begin on September 9.  A small group have done a huge amount of work in the last few months. Thank you to them all. The good news is that all the necessary permissions are in. The frustration is that the Government have still not yet decided whether or not to award a grant, which is making everything much more complicated. Please pray for an award to be made, and made soon.

The work on the hall will be done in stages. During these it will be closed.  It will be possible to accommodate almost all existing groups in other parts of the building while this happens.  Your patience and understanding will help everyone cope with the inevitable disruption and complications that will still occur.

4)   Gather Worship Nights

Organized by North Berwick Christian Fellowship, the next one will be on Friday 30 August at 7 pm in North Berwick High School.

5)   Bethany looking for Volunteers
