2) Hall Energy Project
As many of you will be aware, the Hall project got underway on 9 September with contractors beginning the ceiling insulation and preparing for the installation of the ventilation unit. The project working group and I would like to thank everyone for their understanding and co-operation in coping with the different arrangements while the Hall is unavailable including the stacking and re-setting of the sanctuary chairs which has enabled most of the user groups to continue their activities throughout the week. I am delighted to advise that Local Energy Scotland has formally offered a grant of £57,719 towards the costs of the energy-renewable elements of the project. This means that together with the Gift Day donation of £20,000 and the reserves allocated by the Kirk Session at its September meeting we can progress the completion of the whole project.
3) Social Media Update
As part of our Growing Young strategy, we agreed to increase our presence on social media, particularly Facebook and WhatsApp.
Our Facebook following has increased from about 200 people to over 350. That is more than sit in the pews each week and more than on our role. Clearly we are addressing an audience beyond our own members. It is important that our messages reflect the breadth of our following, many of whom represent community groups and have no active Church involvement.
WhatsApp is much more for internal use. Our general page will include many things that appear in the weekly update from Neil, but other messages can also be sent through that route. In addition, several groups within the Church have set up their own WhatsApp groups. For example, the social media steering group has a group. WhatsApp has a community function which means that all groups for that community can be drawn under one heading. The advantages of this include:
- Only needing to look in one place for everything to do with St Andrew Blackadder.
- Increased awareness of activities that you may not currently hereof.
- Potential for other groups, not currently existing, to share news and views about matters relevant to the Church.
As with all social media, good practice of quality, respect, inclusion and consistency will be important, so community activity will continue to be moderated.
You may have already joined the WhatsApp Community using the link shared to our general group earlier this week. If not, and you are interested in being a part of the community, send a WhatsApp message to Ken Reid, 07770 733471. We look forward to seeing you in the community.
