- Sunday 27 October
Services at 9.30 am and 10.30 am (also live-streamed). During the services we will give thanks to God for 30 years of ministry by the Beacon. The Bible passages are Genesis 18:1-15 and Hebrews 13:1-3; the theme Welcome and Hospitality.
Can I remind you that clocks change on Saturday night, and you get an extra hour’s sleep.
The congregation has been reading Lighting the Beacons by Jill Duff for the last 10 weeks. In so many ways The Beacon captures and expresses the message of the book. The light of Jesus has shone through the Beacon in a way which is both bold and humble.
For 10 weeks the sermon has focused on the theme of the next chapter of Lighting the Beacons. For various reasons this Sunday turned out to be the best day to mark the Beacon’s 30th Anniversary. I assumed that the theme of the next chapter would tie in with it which turned out to be Chapter 10, What is the Battle? However, I couldn’t find a natural connection with the Beacon Anniversary. What’s said in this chapter is important. It simply doesn’t fit this occasion. Although I am skipping this chapter I encourage you to read it and ponder it.
2) Gillian Couper
A warm welcome to Gillian Couper. Gillian is preparing to be a Church of Scotland minister. As part of this she will be working in St Andrew Blackadder for the next 6 months. She will spend 10 hours a week sharing in ministry while she also continues her studies at New College.
3) The Guild meets on Tuesday 29th October at 2pm in the chapel. Rev Douglas Nicol, who has preached here at StAB in the past, will tell us about his recent trip around the world by train. Everyone is most welcome to come along.
4) New Home Group
Donna Kellock is starting a new Home Group. It will meet every second Wednesday, 6.45-8.45 pm, starting on Nov 6. Sometimes it is easier to join a group as it forms than to join one that already exists. So if you’ve often wondered about being part of a Home Group, might this be for you? To find out more contact Donna. Her details are in the Church Directory.
5) Helper for Board Games Club
Andrew has started a Board Games Club. It meets on Mondays between 3.30 and 6 pm in the church building. Between 10 and 15 young people are coming. This is a great news because it is helping us minister to young people and develop relationships with them.
Andrew needs another adult helper to ensure the group can meet every week. Might you be that person? Or do you know someone who could be?
If you (or that person) are free on Monday afternoons and enjoy playing Board games Andrew would love to talk to you about it.
6) Gather Worship Night. Fri 1 Nov 7 pm.
Hosted by North Berwick Christian Fellowship at the High School. All welcome.
7) Prayer Gatherings
Every Sunday in Prayer Room between 10 and 10.20 am Every Monday in Room 1 between 10 and 11 am. Every Wednesday on Zoom between for 30 minutes starting at 7 pm.
Please contact the office for log on details.
