- Worship this Sunday, 28 August.
We celebrate communion at 9.30 am and 10.30 am.
Work has begun on the new AV system which means the service cannot be filmed. Our hope is that, in this transition period, the audio from the service will still be able to be recorded. If so, it will be uploaded later on Sunday to the St Andrew Blackadder YouTube channel. To participate in this service, simply go to the usual place on YouTube and click play. YouTube will play the audio even though there are no pictures.
2) Gift Day
The Annual Gift Day will be on Sunday 18 September. All funds raised this year will be given away.
Two of the projects are about addressing hunger. First, we intend to support East Lothian Foodbank. They have experienced significantly greater demand recently. We want to give them £5,750. This will enable them to buy in basic toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste) to hand our with food parcels. It will also allow them to put together A Meal in a Bag. The bag will have all the ingredients, together with a recipe card, to allow a family to create a nutritious meal. Second, we intend to support the Orphans Village in Malawi. Normally they are self-sufficient. What they grow and sell enables them to feed themselves all year round. This year, everything is twice as expensive, so they don’t have enough money. We intend to give £2,500 which will enable them to feed everyone until the end of the year.
Please think about what you might be able to contribute towards Gift Day.
3) The Guild
Saturday 10 September, 10.30am to 2.30pm, the National Guild Annual Gathering will be live-streamed to the Chapel. There will be worship, fellowship, and information about this year’s Charity Projects: Blether with BEAT, and Starchild Uganda. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be available. Please come and join in – even for a short time.
Tuesday 13 September, from 2.00pm to 4.00pm, the Guild will meet in the Chapel to wrap shoeboxes in Christmas paper for Blythswood Care. If you have any shoeboxes or Christmas paper to donate, could you please bring them to church and put them in Room 4 next to the big cupboard? Your help covering the boxes on 13 September would be greatly appreciated.
4) Growing Young: the Next Step
Sunday 11 September.
During the summer I mentioned five ideas we want to explore further to help us Grow Young: using Social Media better; supporting parents; mission trips; engaging with the High School and worship outside the church. On Sunday 11 September there will be a whole church discussion as part of the 10.30 am service. Instead of the sermon, the congregation will divide into five groups (one for each idea) and spend the time thinking how that idea might develop.
The 9.30 am service on Sunday 11 September will follow the normal pattern.
5) Church Picnic: Canty Bay: 11 September from 12 noon.
Bring your own picnic and share fellowship. Continue the conversation from the group you chose to be part of in church if you’d like to. Enjoy the beauty and facilities that Canty Bay has to offer.
6) Eco Congregation Scotland
One way the congregation has expressed its concern for creation is by registering with Eco Congregation Scotland. It’s been an important step. It has encouraged us as we have taken action to reduce the congregation’s carbon footprint.
There’s more that could be done. Is there someone, or a small group of people, who sense a calling to this part of mission? Might you be willing to connect with Eco Congregation Scotland (and other similar groups)? Could you feed ideas and take initiatives that would prompt the whole congregation to continue engaging in this part of mission?
If you’re interested please give your name to Julie in the office, or speak to Niki or Neil.
7) Prayer Gathering
Each Wednesday on Zoom between for 30 minutes starting at 7 pm.
