2 September 2022, Weekly Update

  1. Sunday 4 Sept

We worship at 9.30 am and 10.30 am. The theme is, What makes society good?  And we will pick up some of the ideas from Chapter 3 of A Space for God.  An audio version of the service will be uploaded to the StAB YouTube channel on Sunday afternoon.

2)  Sunday 11 Sept

Next Sunday, 11 Sept, the 10.30 am service will be an unusual format. Instead of a sermon we will break into five groups to think how we might take five ideas from Growing Young forward.  A brief description of each group is attached.

The 9.30 am service will follow the usual format, which includes a sermon. This will NOT cover the next chapter of A Space for God.  There will be a one week break from the book so that those who go to the 10.30 service don’t miss out on the next exciting instalment.

I am giving plenty of information ahead of time so that.

– You can choose which is the best service for you to come to on Sunday 11th.

– If you choose to come to the 10.30 service, you have worked out which of the five groups you are going to be part of.

3)  Mrs Christine Machrae

Christine died on 31 August in the Abbey Home. Christine was a kind, cheerful, determined woman whose faith in Jesus Christ shaped her character and sustained her through life’s ups and downs. Her funeral will be at Mortonhall on Tuesday 23 September at 2.30 pm. We ask God to comfort her family and friends at this time.

4)  Douglas Hamilton

Douglas will be ordained by the Presbytery of Lothian and inducted to the charge of Traprain at a service to be held in Prestonkirk, East Linton, on Thursday 8 September at 7.00 pm.  It would be great if many people from St Andrew Blackadder were able to be there to express their support for him and the family as they start this new chapter of ministry.

5)  Church Picnic: Canty Bay – Sunday 11 Sept, 12 noon

Everyone is invited to a Church Family Picnic and gathering for all ages at Canty Bay from 12.00noon.  Please bring your own food for a picnic, chairs, beach rugs, etc.  Canty Bay has great facilities (kitchen, loos, football pitch, beach volley ball, private beach access).  Either sit and relax ….or join in various activities.  Directions: Just after the Drift Café entrance and before Canty House there is a private road down to Canty Bay. A suggested contribution of £5/car to help cover the fee for hiring the site.

On Saturday 10 September, St Andrew Blackadder Church has the exclusive use of Canty Bay (as it has been booked out by the church for the whole weekend). Any member of the church family is invited to use the site on Saturday 10 September from 2.00pm onwards for a private beach outing.  There will be a steward down there for the afternoon and early evening opening up and keeping an eye on things.

6)  Guild

On Saturday 10 September, from 10.30am to 2.30pm, the National Guild Annual Gathering will be live-streamed to the Chapel. There will be worship, fellowship, and information about this years Charity Projects: Blether with BEAT, and Starchild Uganda. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be available. Please come – even for a short time.

On Tuesday 13 September, from 2.00pm to 4.00pm, the Guild will meet in the Chapel to wrap shoeboxes in Christmas paper for Blythswood Care. If you have any shoeboxes or Christmas paper to donate, could you please bring them to church and put them in Room 4 next to the big cupboard? Any help you can offer in covering the boxes would be greatly appreciated.
