27th January 2023, Weekly Update

  1. Sunday 29 January

Services in the church building at 9.30 am and 10.30 am (also live-streamed). The passage is Matthew 4:12-25 and the theme Summoned to a life of purpose.

Worship will be led at the 10.30 service by the North Berwick Gospel Choir. This is a community choir. It rehearses on Wednesday in the church buildings. Some church members are part of the choir. After chatting to Julie, their conductor, I invited the choir to lead our worship on Sunday and I’m delighted that they have agreed to do this.

During the service Andrew Duncan (Apprentice Youth Worker) will bring the congregation up to speed with the mentoring which is offered to older teenagers in the congregation.

2)   Messy Church: Sunday 5 February 4pm

After its Christmas break Messy Church returns next week. Please contact Alison Singleton (details in the Church Directory)  if you can help. Please spread the news to anyone you know who might be interested.

Messy Church request for March

It’s some weeks away but this Messy Church is going to require some items that might need more time to organise. Are you able to help with: 1. Cardboard rolls from paper towels (not toilet rolls), 2.  A very large cardboard box (e.g. from a washing machine, bed, settee etc)  3. Blue egg boxes.  Sweet News sell 6 eggs in a blue box, so if you’d like to buy from there and give the egg-box to Messy Church that would be much appreciated. No other colours please.

Since only ONE very large box is needed please contact the office first (895233). You can bring smaller items to the office any weekday morning until 28th February.

3)   Church Weekend 3-4 June 2023 Scoughall

Last June there was a very successful Church Weekend at Scoughall (SU site). This year the weekend will be from lunchtime on Saturday 3 June until early afternoon on Sunday 4 June. It will be at Scoughall again, with people returning to sleep in their own beds on Saturday night. The organising team reviewed what worked well last year and concluded that a shorter programme would work better.

There will be a slightly different programme for teenagers. It will begin on Friday 2 June. They will also have the opportunity to sleep over at Scoughall.

More details to follow. In the meantime, perhaps you would like to save the date.

4)   Guild

A Guild Meeting will be held in the Chapel at 2.30pm on Tuesday 31 January. There will be hymns, prayers and a Bible reading. The speaker, Janice Macleod, will be talk about “My Nursing Career, as seen in a Museum”. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served afterwards. Everyone is very welcome.

5)   Monthly Prayer Diary

The January edition did not appear because Ian Gordon who compiles it had been unwell. A briefer version has been prepared to cover the next few weeks. Paper copies are available in the church building or by email from Julie. Ian is getting better and plans on preparing the March edition.

6)   Prayer Gathering

Each Wednesday on Zoom between for 30 minutes starting at 7 pm.

Please contact the office for log on details
