Contrary to what was said in church last Sunday there will be NO Hunger Lunch this month.

2)     Gift Day – Ife Bible

It has been a privilege for St Andrew Blackadder to support the translation of the Bible into Ife. The Ife people live mainly in Togo in West Africa. Wycliffe Bible Translators have been working for 40 years, and our congregation has been involved since 2008, with this translation.  With virtually no written material in their own language, rates of literacy among the Ife have been very low. Therefore, the translation team have been using portions of scripture to teach people to read. It has been a win-win. People have both encountered Jesus through the Bible and are now able to read.  On Sunday I will tell you about the dramatic change this has produced in one man’s life.  As the translation project nears completion it is good that we can once again contribute through Gift Day.

The total amount given so far for all five projects is £27,558 which means we are well on our way to the target of £30,000. Thank you to everyone who has given so generously.

3)    Gift Day 2022

One project from Gift Day last year was to provide Belly Bins that have the capacity to cope with the amount of litter all the visitors to North Berwick generate. Six Belly Bins are now in place.  You paid for one of them. On all of them, at the bottom, the contribution of St Andrew Blackadder Church is acknowledged. See the photo below..

4)   Sustainability

In the congregation’s drive to live sustainably, one of the six thrusts is to support those who are disadvantaged. Sadly, the poorest in the world tend to have contributed minimally to climate change, while suffering its worst impacts.

The group who are focusing at this aspect want to share this message with you:

We have some ideas – working with sustainable charities here and in Malawi – and we would welcome more. We would also love to get practical ideas for action and offers of help to carry them out.

Some of our ideas so far include:

  • seeing if we can assist in the work of Zero Waste and local repair charities,
  • training in repair, reuse and recycling,
  • promoting sustainable charities, currently with a focus on Malawi.

We would like to offer more than just financial support and so we will be looking at advocacy, training and education, mentoring and information services as well.

What do you think? What would you do? We would like to make a plan of action and start work on this soon so are proposing a meeting at 11:45, after the 10:30 service, in Church on Sunday 20th August.

If you want to know more, contact Mike Millar (details in Church Directory, or through the office).

5)     Prayer Gathering

Each Wednesday on Zoom between for 30 minutes starting at 7 pm. Please contact the office for log in details.
