27th October 2023, Weekly Update

1. Sunday 29 October

Services are at 9.30 am and 10.30 am (live-streamed). Can I remind you that on Saturday night the clocks go back (extra hour in bed!).

The theme is Wake Up!  The passage is Mark 5:21-43.  This is the passage explored in the final chapter of Sleeping Giant which has the title, ‘Little girl I say to you, arise.’

2. Death

A 15 year old girl died at the foot of the Law this week. It has been a huge blow to her family, her friends and the whole school community.  She came to one of the weekly groups at StAB and was well known to some of the young people in the church.  Please include them in your prayers.

One consequence is a relief coffee team is needed for this Sunday.  You may know that the YF serve coffee on the last Sunday of every month. Thank you YF!  With all that has been going on this week the YF leaders have asked if someone else might be able to look after coffee this Sunday.  If you could help out please let Julie know.

3. Guild, Tuesday 31 October 2pm.

The Guild will welcome Karen Gillon, General Secretary of the Guild.  She is a very enthusiastic and inspiring speaker as well as being a very strong advocate of the Guild .  Why not come along and learn more about the Guild today and what its future might be.

4. Christmas Choir

Gill Casson is forming a Christmas Choir to sing at the Carol Service on Sunday 17 December at 7.00 pm.  It will rehearse on Sundays at 11.50 am starting on November 5th.  All singers of all abilities are invited. Gill has an incredible ability to get a tune out of a whole range of people. Everyone I have ever spoken to tells me how much they enjoy being in her choirs. So why not come along and give it a try.

5. Remembrance Sunday 12 Nov

This year StAB has the privilege of hosting the town Remembrance Sunday service. This will be at 10.45 am.

On this Sunday regular services will be switched round – the normal 10.30 service will be held at 9.30, and the 9.30 service at 10.45.  This means that creche, Junior Church and YF will be at 9.30 am on Sunday 12 November.

6. Blythswood Boxes

Thanks to your generous response to the Christmas shoebox appeal 99 boxes plus a bag of shoebox supplies were uplifted by Blythswood care this week.

7. Books
