8 December 2023, Weekly Update

1. Sunday 10 December

There will be a regular service at 9.30 am which will also be live-streamed.  I will preach on Isaiah 35 on the theme of Are we nearly there?

 

Nativity 10.30 am The Junior Church will tell the story of Christmas. It is always one of the highlights of Christmas. It is also the kind of service that many people who rarely come to church love. I encourage you to invite lots of people you know. Many may be busy or not interested. But you never know who might say, ‘yes’.

 

2)   Invite and pray

Acts 16:14  describes how Lydia came to faith. ‘The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.’ No one is persuaded by someone else to believe in Jesus. It is the Holy Spirit who prompts faith. So please, don’t simply invite. Pray too. Ask God to open the hearts of those who come to church so they will respond to the message of Jesus.

 

3)   Invite with leaflets.

A Christmas card with details of the services needs to be put through the letter boxes of all homes in our parish (the East of NB). Thank you to everyone who took cards last Sunday. Some packets remain. Could you help? You’ll find them at coffee.

There are also loose cards. Please take some to give to family, friends and neighbours no matter where you live.

 

4)   Readers for Christmas Eve

There will be one morning service on Sunday 24 December. It will be  Nine Lessons and Carols.  Could you read one of the nine bible passages? It would make Julie’s life much easier if you could let her know that you are going to be at the service and would be happy to read.

 

5)   Mona Galbraith

Mona died suddenly and unexpectedly at home this week. She was a cheerful, kind, practical and resourceful woman. As well as being a faithful follower of Jesus she was a keen golfer and bridge player.

 

6)   Prayer Gatherings

Every Sunday in Prayer Room between 10 and 10.20 am

Every Monday in Room 1 between 10 and 11 am.

Every Wednesday on Zoom between for 30 minutes starting at 7 pm.
