- Sunday 27th September, Harvest Services at 9.30 am and 10.30 am (live-streamed). This week’s services will be led by the Rev Mary Haddow. The passages are Deuteronomy 16:9-11 & Matthew 6:1-18 , and the theme is Sermon on the Mount- An Audience of One.
We will be supporting both Tear Fund & The East Lothian Food Bank again this year. Tear fund donation envelope’s will be available for collection and below is the list of items needed for the Food Bank.
2) Macmillan Coffee Morning is tomorrow (Sat 26thSept) 10am – 12 noon in the chapel. Please come along to enjoy some home baking & help to make cancer care better for everyone, whoever & wherever they are. Donations of home baking will be gratefully received.
3) Blythswood Christmas Shoe box Appeal. The empty boxes are now wrapped and available for collection by both church entrances and in the prayer room. These are to be filled with age appropriate gifts as listed on the leaflet inside the box, together with a donation for transport costs. Please do read the list and leaflet carefully for the dos and don’ts of what to enclose for either a child or an adult. The filled boxes and items can be handed into church between the 18th-26th October. You can also donate individual items from the box packing list into the donation boxes by the church entrances. There are some unwrapped boxes and individual leaflets available also in the Grant Suttie Room, which can be taken, wrapped and filled at home.
There is also the option to donate financially online to support the appeal, including the option to fund shoe boxes to be made and delivered locally in Asia (£28 covers two boxes). The website and link for donation is Blythswood.org. Any cash donations should be labelled in an envelope and handed into the church office. The gifts are sent to families in poverty across Eastern Europe. This is a great practical and fun way to share God’s love and care for others in need around the World. 4) Survey – Global Week of Prayer We are really keen to gather your feedback about our 24/7 prayer room during the Global Week of Prayer this year. It will help us to understand how it was experienced and enable us to shape future prayer room activities. It shouldn’t take more than 5 mins and is available by following this link, or paper copies will be available at the entrances to the church. Thanks for your help! 5) Crèche We need someone to take over organising the crèche rota from Jan 2027. We are also looking for more volunteers in order to keep the crèche running. What does the role involve? Setting up and clearing away toys in the crèche room. Caring for babies and young children during the 10.30am Sunday service approximately once a month. Please contact Nancy Bell ( see church directory) or the office if you are interested in helping with this ministry.
6) Messy Church November. Could you please save any flat pack cardboard 1-1.5 m long and as wide as possible? Also any strong cardboard tube over 1m long.
7) Thank you – Nancy & Natalia would like to thank everyone for sponsoring them for the Kiltwalk. They raised over £2000 for the eating disorders charity BEAT- they are very grateful to everyone who contributed.
8) Guild. The first meeting of the Guild’s new session starts on Tuesday 29thSeptember at 2 pm in the Chapel. Our locum minister, Mary Haddow, will be talking about our theme for the year – Beyond the Walls. This meeting is open to all. We look forward to welcoming old and new members as well as visitors.
9) Prayer Gatherings Every Sunday in Prayer Room between 10 and 10.20 am. Every Monday in Room 1 between 10 and 11 am. Every Wednesday on Zoom for 30 minutes starting at 7 pm.
