Weekly Update, 23rd May 2025

1. Sunday
Services at 9.30 am and 10.30 am (also live-streamed). The passage is James 2:1-13. The theme, No Favourites.

Communion will be celebrated at both services. If you are worshipping online, prepare your own bread and wine beforehand so you can share in this part of the service too.

2. Guild Coffee Morning. Saturday 24 May 10 am to 12 noon

3. No Beacon
The Rotary Sale will take place this week in the church hall. As a result there will be no Beacon or Beacon service on Thursday 29 May.

4. Church Weekend Away Sat 7 and Sun 8 June
A fabulous opportunity to grow in faith and deepen connections with others in the congregation. Suitable for all ages. Conveniently located at Scoughall. It’s just 5 miles down the road – but it feels like the other side of the country. Get the benefit of sleeping in your own bed, without having to prepare any meals.

The event runs 12.30 – 20.00 on Saturday, 9.30 – 15.30 on Sunday. Come when you can. Leave when you must. All welcome. Please complete a registration form to help with catering. The event for teenagers begins on Friday evening. Andrew has more details.

5. Sunday 8 June
On Sunday 8 June there will only be one service at 9.30 am in the church building. This service will be live-streamed. The 10.30 service will take place at Scoughall. Junior Church and YF will also be at Scoughall that day.

6. Help with Grass Cutting
The grass between the church building and Tigh Mohr and in the side garden gets cut once a fortnight. The rota would benefit from two additional helpers. Cutting takes about an hour and can be done when it suits the cutter. If you might be able to help, or know someone who would like to, please speak to Julie in the Church Office.

7. Prayer Gatherings
Every Sunday in Prayer Room between 10 and 10.20 am
Every Monday in Room 1 between 10 and 11 am.
Every Wednesday on Zoom between for 30 minutes starting at 7 pm.

8. Fostering and Adoption
The Parish of Traprain has joined up with Home for Good / Safe Families to host an evening at Prestonkirk Stables, East Linton on Thursday 19th June at 7pm. Rev Douglas Hamilton will speak about the voice of the church for local families and children. This will be followed by two social workers in the fostering and adoption team of East Lothian Council sharing more about the need to support looked after children in the area.

Anyone is welcome – whether you are a single person, couple or family and want to learn more about different forms of support that you could be involved in for children locally; or if you are a member of the community and are interested in stepping up to provide wrap around care for a local foster carer or adopter; or if you are involved in church leadership and want to have more awareness of what is happening in your local council – this is a great evening to come to.
